Which car is better for $4500, Japanese car 1997 OR American car 2001 model?
I can afford only $4500, I can get only 1997 or 1998 model of Japanese car like Honda, mazda or Toyota but I can get upto 2001 or 2002 model of American car (ford, chev). Which car is more reliable and has strong body? Thank you.

- Generally, most Japanese cars are better for longevity... but you pay a premium and maint and repairs are generally more expensive.. I would choose Honda/Toyota compared to other makes. Ford/GM can be bought cheaper and repairs/parts are less expensive and any competent mechanic can work on them. They might nickle and dime you a bit more, but all in all, it's all in preference. I would mainly consider GM vehicles with the 3.1 or 3.8 engine like the Chevy Impala/Buick Lesabre, etc.
- It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - autoinsurance.noneto.com
