Japanese Beautiful Model

Which car is better for $4500, Japanese car 1997 OR American car 2001 model?

I can afford only $4500, I can get only 1997 or 1998 model of Japanese car like Honda, mazda or Toyota but I can get upto 2001 or 2002 model of American car (ford, chev). Which car is more reliable and has strong body? Thank you.

  1. Generally, most Japanese cars are better for longevity... but you pay a premium and maint and repairs are generally more expensive.. I would choose Honda/Toyota compared to other makes. Ford/GM can be bought cheaper and repairs/parts are less expensive and any competent mechanic can work on them. They might nickle and dime you a bit more, but all in all, it's all in preference. I would mainly consider GM vehicles with the 3.1 or 3.8 engine like the Chevy Impala/Buick Lesabre, etc.
  2. It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - autoinsurance.noneto.com
