How do you think the American public will respond to this film?
I heard that there was gonna be an American remake of the Japanese movie Battle Royale coming out later in 2010 or 2011. The movie was adapted from a novel itself. Its about the government has turned socialist, people can no longer trust the youth and they fear them. The governemnt choose a high school class each year to be apart of the Program. The Program basically goes like this, the kids are given weapons, maps, and a survival kit and they are on a deserted island. They have 3 days to kill all their classmates. The last one standing is wins and gets to go home. If there isn't one sole winner of the program or if the class doesn't participate in the killing they will die anyway. It's basically kill or be killed. Their movements are tracked by metal collars, later identified as Model Guadalcanal No. 22, around their necks which contain tracking and listening devices; if any student should attempt to escape The Program, or enter declared "danger zones", a bomb will be detonated in the collar, killing the wearer. If no student dies in any 24 hour period, all collars will be detonated simultaneously. I can't wait till they make a American version, but I feel like Japanese and Americans have different concepts of violence in movies and tv. I hope they don't turn this beautiful film into a watered down action film with high school musical and twilight stars( i wouldn't mind seeing Zac Efron or Kristen Stewart get owned in a movie like this) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsoMkonx1ro&feature=related#movie_player http://www.3xl.cat/multimedia/jpg/0/6/1177091404960.jpg I think it's one of the best movies ever made

- Sounds very interesting. I hope its not to gory and bloody, than I won't be able to watch it. If the Japanese version was than I'm praying they do water it down.
- O_O Yeah, make America that much more skeptical of socialism! GOD DAMN IT! OBAMA ISN'T SOCIALIST! HE'S MILDLY CONSERVATIVE!
- i see battle royal and it is great film i think american version of it would be very good
- I hope they do put these twilight actors in this movie, it will be very satisfying to see Taylor Lautner mutilated or Kristen Stewart severed. LOL On a serious note, That movie does sound really interesting and it has a great plot.
- not sure really but what a good question !
- I thought the Americans already did do a remake. If they haven't then I really hope they don't. I love Asian movies and Battle Royale is one of my favourites. That being said Asian cinema has a very specific style that the Americans can't copy. If they do try to remake it they will destroy it. I think I would share the same fears as you. Every remake I have seen has removed the very essence of the movie. It would probably get turned into a romantic thriller.
- It sounds peculiarly interesting in the plot line that you have provided. It seems though that Hollywood will ruin the movie with special effects and garbage added plots that have little to do with the actual story itself. The violence in Japanese movies is always much more visible than in American movies so it will be certainly tuned down a little. However, that being said, I truly hope it doesn't turn into a myriad of blood and gore as Hollywood has a tendency to ruin good movies in that manner
- Why does america have to "remake" all asian movies and replace them with white actors? I rather just read the subtitles from the original film.
- You know alot of popular American movies were originally Japanese or Asian. The Departed, the Ring, the Univited, Shutter, Premonition, One Missed Call, The Grudge, My Sassy Girl, the Lake House, The Eye...the list goes on and on. Those movies were pretty good in thier Asian origins, but whether or not the film is good in the US depends on the director. The departed was good because Scorsese directed it and he is a pretty good director, and I checked out who the director is an it turns out to be Roy Lee who was the executive producer on the American remakes of The Ring, The Grudge, the Departed, Sassy Girl, the Eye. So I guess the movie has potential, but we realy won't know until we see it. By the way I don't think the Japanese and by that the Asian film industry gets the credit they deserve. You have lagiarist like Tarantino taking film scenes from Asian movies and introducing it to American audiences without crediting the Asian counterpart who took it from.
